Stones and Time

Years ago, I was in Ireland on the Aran Islands. Since prehistoric times the inhabitants of the Aran Islands have been stacking stones. They made walls and houses and structures to buffet the unforgiving winds of the North Sea. I made a comment about all of the rocks. One of the locals said

“Ah, stones and time we’ve plenty of.”

“Stones and time, we’ve plenty of”  is an interesting way to look at things. Of course, if you have been stacking stones for thousands of years you would think that you have enough of them, but time? We are always so worried about time. No one ever says that they have plenty of time. That was probably 15 years ago. I think about it often. Maybe, if you have a lifetime of stones to stack then time becomes so grueling that you feel you have plenty of it. Or perhaps all you worry about is stones. In that case, time is irrelevant.

As we fly out of the 20 teens and into the 2020's, my wish for you is that you have plenty of stones and plenty of time.
